I’m super excited about my freshly cleaned and organized closet! I had done some research over the weekend and here’s what I cam up with for my process:
1. Purge by Category.
Folks kept telling me in their blogs to completely empty my closet then sort and return. That didn’t make any sense to me. So instead, I purged in chunks. First the baskets on the tops shelves, then my scarves, then tops, pants, sweaters, and dresses. I pulled out all of the items I no longer wanted and divided them into 2 piles: Donate and Closet Sale.
2. Seasonal Split.
I had read an article about Capsule Wardrobes having a base neutral and an accent color or two. I tend to gravitate towards specific color palettes anyway, so this seemed like a good idea for me. But then I saw another blogger share how she splits her wardrobe into seasons – and that seemed like a natural fit too. So, I’ve split my closet into spring/summer (with a neutral base of navy and accent of pink) and fall/winter (neutral base olive and orange/marigold for an accent). I also use whites and browns with both palettes, so those will be permanent in my closet. I’ve moved my f/w clothes to the guest room closet for storage. It also means that they’ll still be accessible if I decide I want to change something up.
I’m looking forward to having narrowed my options and better organized my clothes and accessories! How do you organize your wardrobe?
